Make Room for Hope

From A Place Called Hope by Ft Michael McCullagh, 20 Feb 2005:
"There is a great difference between optimism and hope. Many lose heart today because they do not, with human eyes, have great cause to be optimistic about what is happening. Peter, James, and John had many reasons to lose heart but [during the Transfiguration] Jesus brings them to a place called hope. Sometimes we can be afraid to give our hearts to God. The Transfiguration is Jesus reassuring us and saying Stand up, do not be afraid".

St Genesius Film Society - The 13th Day

Next Tuesday, the St Genesius Film Society shows "the 13th Day", a movie about the events that occurred in Fatima in 1917. The film is free of charge although donations (for the renting of the place) are welcome. The movie will be shown next Tuesday 16 February at 7.30pm, Ely Place (off Stephen's Green), D2. The Fraternity of St Genesius support and pray for the men and women involved in cinema and theatre. All Micah and non- members are encouraged to take part to the event.

Soup Run for the Homeless in Dublin

On Friday night, the young adults from the Micah community take the streets and bring sandwiches, tea, coffee, soup, clothes sometimes, and always a good chat to homeless people in Dublin. It is a very spiritually-rewarding service, which makes volunteers feel privileged in taking part to. At the same time, it makes homeless people don't feel they are alone and lonely. The meeting for volunteers is at 38-39 Lower Gardiner Street at 8:50. Soup Run is 9-11pm. For those willing to help with making sandwiches and preparing boxes for delivery, meeting is at 7pm. This voluntary work is carried out in collaboration with Teach Mhuire ("The House of Mary").

Visit to the Parish of Precious Blood

On Sunday 7 February, a group of people from Micah went to Precious Blood church in Cabra West for promoting the community outside St Peter's. Ft John invited some of us over for the 11am and 12.15 masses. We had the chance to make a very long announcement describing what we do and who we are. We got a lot of positive feedback out of this experience and some people we have just given some leaflets yesterday they joined us the same day for the 6.30pm Micah "mass with a difference". A big thank you to Ft John for his support as well as Claire and Gabriel for volunteering their free time for the community.

Micah Wins St Genesius Fundraiser Quiz

It was a great night of fun and friendship the one at Russell Court Hotel. The fundraiser table quiz took place last Tuesday. The quiz was organized by the St Genesius Theatre Company in aid of the people of Haiti. Many people took part to the night but the group from Micah managed to positively answer the great majority of the questions raised during a sort of 10-round marathon. Among the prizes won: a lovely tea set, a bootle of expensive wine, and vouchers for buying books. The winning Micah team was: Pasquale "scrambled eggs", Anthony "the machine", Gabriel "lentil soup", Claire, Anna, and Agnes. Looking forward to new (winning) opportunities! Too bad we didn't take any picture though!
